Short Course Description
Upon completion of course students will be able to confidently and creatively design vector graphics for use in both print and web applications.
They will be able to manipulate existing vector artworks as well as produce their own creative designs and illustrations.
Short Course Requirements
LEARNING SCHEDULE
WEEK 1:
- Illustrator capabilities (Presentation)
- Vector VS. Pixel (Presentation)
- Introduction to the Illustrator workspace
- The pen tool
- Homework: Practice with the pen tool. Find a portrait and trace it using the pen tool to master controls
WEEK 2:
- The pen tool continued
- Understanding beziers, path, nodes and anchor points
- Closing paths, cutting paths, simplifying paths, adding/deleting anchor points, erasing paths
- The drawing tools
- The shape tools
- Working with shapes: creating shapes, stacking objects, pathfinder, alignment tool
- Homework: Practice using the drawing and shape tools. Create graphical representations of: A banana, a flower and a birthday cake.
WEEK 3:
- Looking at auto trace and auto colour functions
- Graphic styles and gradients
- Inserting artwork and incorporating bitmaps into vector art
- Saving properly
- Homework: Practice auto trace and auto colour by scanning or photographing and uploading an original drawing or sketch/insert an image of choice into illustrator and combine vector graphics into the layout.
WEEK 4:
- Looking at text functions
- Creative text
- Importance of creating text to outlines for sending to print and in order to manipulate
- Homework: Create some interesting manipulated text suitable for a logotype or creative typography
WEEK 5:
- Effects and filters
- Creating pattern swatches
- Looking at the colour palette - colours or screen and print
- Homework: Create your own pattern swatch
WEEK 6:
- Saving for output - exporting, pre-pressing
- Certificate presentation
- Feedback forms

You can enrol over the phone and we will complete all of the necessary forms for you and take your payment. Payments are accepted by credit card on (07) 5459 3000 between 8am – 5pm Mon-Fri.
In Person
Call into any of our Customer Contact Centres and we will provide you will full details of your course and complete your enrolment forms with you.
We can take payment directly over the counter using cash, cheques, credit cards and EFTPOS – Mon-Fri 8.30am – 4.30pm at the following Campuses:
