Future Students : Indigenous Support Services

Indigenous Support Services

TAFE courses are designed to extend knowledge in a supportive learning environment, sensitive to cultural differences and to the social context, learning style and language base of Indigenous Australian life.

Sunshine Coast TAFE offers a variety of courses specifically for students of Indigenous Australian descent. These courses range from studies to develop skills for employment or further study to vocational courses leading to careers.

Indigenous students are also encouraged to apply for any of our courses.

At Sunshine Coast TAFE, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students have access to an Indigenous Student Support Officer (ISSO) who can provide culturally-appropriate assistance and information about:

  • Indigenous employment
  • Job search training, e.g. interview skills and resumes
  • Tertiary courses
  • Tutoring, study skills, and assignment help
  • Accommodation and transport
  • Personal issues, domestic and cultural issues and legal matters
  • General training problems and issues
  • Options for prospective students
  • ABSTUDY and other financial assistance

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students wishing to undertake full-time, part-time, flexible or short courses are invited to contact the Indigenous Student Support Officer for more information.
